Viktor Lowenfield contributed meaningful research, visions, and theories to art education and the understanding of artistic development. His work continues to help educators understand the way that their students develop artistically today. Lowenfield helped art educators further understand the roles that they play in helping their students to develop artistically. He further defined the way art educators function to promote positive learning and artistic growth in their students. Lowenfield’s theories contribute to positive growth and strengthen a student’s self worth. Giving students the opportunity to participate in creative art activities and experience the hands-on component of material exploration is required for a student to learn and developing artistically. Lowenfield also believed that outside influences and imitative procedures could be detrimental on the student’s ability to create and develop artistically.
